Hi there! So the holidays are here and we are getting our craft on at school! The kids are making back of ornaments for their parents so we decided to make a classic… Salt Dough Ornaments! After a couple trials we finally got it just right! Wanna make some? It’s so easy and the kds loved doing them!
Materials
✩ rolling pin
✩ cookie cutters
✩ straw
✩ salt dough
✩ tempera or acrylic paint
✩ fabric ribbon
✩ modge podge & sparkles (optional)
Salt Dough recipe:
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
3/4 cup water
Instructions
① In a large bowl, mix salt and flour together.
② Gradually add water until you have a nice dough consistency (not too clumpy and not too sticky)
③ Turn the dough on a hard surface and kneed for about five minutes until it’s nice and smooth!
④ Voilà, it’s ready to use! Flatten out small portions with a rolling pin until about 0.5 – 1cm thick (max) and cut into different shapes! Don’t forget to poke a hole with a straw (for the ribbion) before baking!
⑤ Place on parchment paper and bake in the oven at a low temperature, about 200°F for about 2 hours.
⑥ Paint and tie a ribbon! You can even seal it with a shiny coat using modge podge or varnish and add sparkles!
